Vetiver - Thing of the Past

Vetiver - Houses

Vetiver - Hurry On Sunrise

Vetiver - I Must Be In A Good Place Now

This band is on heavy repeat in my house. "Thing of the Past" is a cover album of old singer songwriters - american music, folk/rock - of the late 60's early 70's but it's unlike any cover album i have heard before i had to really seek out the original recordings and Vetiver really brings thier own style to these tunes. here is the track list and original artist:
Houses [Elyse Weinberg]
Roll on Babe [Derroll Adams]
Sleep a Million Years [Dia Joyce]
Hook & Ladder [Norman Greenbaum]
To Baby [Biff Rose]
Road to Ronderlin [Ian Matthews]
Lon Chaney [Garland Jeffreys]
Hurry on Sundown [Dave Brock, Hawkwind]
Swimming Song [Loudon Wainwright III]
Blue Driver [Michael Hurley]
Standing [Towns Van Zandt]
I Must Be in a Good Place Now [Bobby Charles]*

I was asked to return to Playland this last month to help paint some new signs for the front of their building. The organization is doing great, they have begun renting out the museum for bday parties keeping the place afloat in this rough economy. Congratulations to everyone who is still keeping this place alive and i think last friday was the celebration of thier first year open.

Junior Kimbrough - All night Long

Junior Kimbrough - Nobody But You

The Black Keys - Nobody But You

R. L. Burnside - Poor Black Mattie

Kings of Leon - Dusty

Muddy Waters - Still a Fool

the first track comes from Junior Kimbrough's first album, All Night Long, recorded in 1992 in a local church with Junior's son Kent "Kinney" Kimbrough (aka Kenny Malone) on drums and R. L. Burnside's son Garry Burnside on bass guitar. The Black Keys put out the album, Chulahoma, where all the songs on the record where written by Junior and performed by the Keys. The title of the album is a reference to Chulahoma, Mississippi the location of "Juniors Place" a juke joint purchased and ran by the family past Juniors death in 1998 until it burned down in 2000. I threw in a couple other favorites of mine. i hope you enjoy them as much as i do.
